My Jamaican Guy

A year later, I'm in the same place. Before long, there's someone dancing behind me. I glance over at my girl for The Signal. She gives me a discreet thumbs up, and a smile. I know what that means: "Keep dancing, he's cute!"

Minutes later, he's standing beside me. I'm slightly disappointed...he's more her type than mine. But he is attractive and he has beautiful eyes. I can see he doesn't remember me from last year. We exchange pleasantries and small talk, then I make a move to leave.

"You should stay," he says, with just the right mix of confidence-without-being-cocky. He doesn't need to say it twice...I'm mesmerized, especially since it's obvious that he's younger than I am. You don't usually find that self-assuredness on a young guy. We talk some more, oblivious of the party that is in full swing around us. I find out that we work for the same company...in two different countries.

We see each other a couple times for the duration of my stay. I look him up on the company directory the minute I get back and send him an email. "I was hoping you'd remember my name, " he says. "I really want to keep in touch."

A few emails later, then he suggests we take it off the company server. I was more than happy to oblige. We've been flirting across the miles ever since...

Physically, he's not my type, but types are overrated anyway.

I'm contemplating a mid-way rendevous...

I think the "Don't dip your pen in company ink" rule can be ignored since we are not even in the same country.

Ooh, CP, you were responding just as I was!

Physically, it's not stuff that matters. I can appreciate that he's an attractive man, but his look is just not one that would normally catch my eye (mixed-looking, light eyes, etc.). I'm more of a chocolate fiend. ;)

I used to like Morris Chestnut til Fiyah ruined it for me.

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew women gave hand signals telling each other whether to run from a guy or dance with him! Its now confirmed.

Anyways... how did I ruin Morris Chestnut for you?! lol

(I seriously regret ever making that comment)

@ Fiyah: sometimes I wonder about the women you know. OF COURSE we give each othe signals. And I'll tell you somethin' else: if we leave to go to the bathroom and don't come back, we didn't need to use the bathroom in the first place.

Hehe.

physical attraction are sometimes not important, if hes nice and hes everything you would like in a guy; confident, jovial, makes good decisions, caring, honest, trustworthy....etc, then you good to go meaning go for it. sometimes we spend our time trying to find that one person who has everything(sexy, good personality, cute smile, drop dead gorgeous eyes, everything) and end up spending the rest or most of our lives doing so.
i understand what Adrian saying about dipping your pen in company ink, but technically you guys dont work together, so its safe.
have fun!

@SE's bathroom comment: Even if she told me the next day that her dog got hit by a car and she had to leave with her friend in tow immediately?

that is like something out of a movie!! that's pretty cool tho.

keep in touch with the guy and he may grow into your type. you'd be suprised at how the mind can convince the rest of you to do something.

To be sure, the out-of-country hook-ups are probably the best. Hands down. Go for it, but carefully of course.
