Not Sure Of The Dating Potential of A Potential Date?

Take him or her to breakfast! Yes, you read right...breakfast! They don't call it the most important meal of the day for nothin'.

(Assuming you haven't slept with the person the night before) Breakfast is the perfect non-committal, getting-to-know-you date. Not only are you more lucid in the morning - which will help you make a clear, balanced determination whether this dude/chick is date-worthy - but a breakfast date is also a good buffer.

Lunch dates rarely ever start on time - unless they're during the work week. (And who really takes an hour off work to go on a date when you're thinking about your work and spreadsheets and all the stuff that pisses you off about being employed?) So as I was saying, weekend lunch dates have a tendency to start late and drag on way longer than you expect.

Dinner dates...well, they kinda speak for themselves. It's very difficult to have a quick dinner date. Plus, you can't go out for dinner too early - unless you're 80 years old and trying to catch the Early Bird Special at the local diner. And the later the dinner date begins is the less chance you have of using the "oh-I-have-plans-afterwards" excuse. Then there's that awkward, do-we-kiss-or-don't-we, or the should-I-invite-him/her-to-my-place, or the countless other situations that an evening meal seems to stir up.

Breakfast takes care of all that. For one, people seem less likely to think about kissing and nightcaps when it's 11o'clock in the morning, so you've avoided that awkward dance. For another, people usually have stuff to do after breakfast. So unless you're a bum, or you have no life, breakfast is the jump start to your day. Errands to run, people to see, stuff to catch up on...you'll have plenty of reasons to dine and dash if dude/chick isn't what you expected.

So the next time you meet that dude/chick and you're not quiiite sure if wanna go for a full-blown date, take 'em for the breakfast test drive! You'll thank me later, I promise. Now does anyone know where I could get some good chicken and waffles in New York City?

What d'you think?

Send me an email! I'd love to hear from you.

Oh God, I'll never have a good date what with breakast being two cups of Java and sometimes a smoke or an apirin.

@Search, Maroons makes me feel like someone locked me in one of my closets in my apartment and slipped a plate in for me to eat. It's just entirely too small, which is a pity, because their food is so good. Maybe I'll have to ignore all of that though, because I really, really, really want some chicken and waffles.

@BIM: You sound like a NYC advertising executive. LOL. Stereotypical as it is, it's hard to imagine someone in the islands having such a stressful breakfast. LOL.

I know that I'm a little late in commenting but there is a great chicken and waffles place on myrtle ave in clinton hill/ft. greene (use to all be considered bed-stuy) section of brooklyn. Its either on clinton and myrtle or washington and myrtle. they have like a $5 special too.
