The X Effect

Ex-lax sign

I was watching a marathon of The X Effect on MTV this weekend (I know, I'm the ultimate party girl). It's this show where they invite two exes and their current partners to a secluded luxury hotel for a romantic weekend. Everyone thinks it'll be a chance for the exes to reconnect in an open environment, but when they get there they're told that the exes are staying and the partners are going back home. But the partners don't actually go home, unbeknownst to the exes, they're put up in another part of the hotel, where they'll have the opportunity to spy on the goings on. (Read the full description here).

I watched this one episode with two black couples, Evi & Kevin and Shawna & J'Serie. Evi & J'Serie were the exes who were reconnecting, and Shawna & Kevin were their current partners. Evi & J'Serie had long conversations, talked about where they went wrong and ended up having sex. In their talks, J'Serie made it clear that Shawna wasn't the one for him, and he was very interested in getting back with Evi (mind you, Shawna's hearing all of this).

Then the moment of truth came. Both Evi and J'Serie had to choose whether they wanted to get back with each other or stay in their current relationship. Evi dumped Kevin and chose to give it another shot with J'Serie. J'Serie chose Shawna (who surprisingly took him back). So basically, Evi got played. Big time. J'Serie said he was only in it for the sex, he never really wanted to get back with Evi. With comments like that I can understand why Shawna would be happy to take him back.

But the classic line was delivered by Shawna: "Yeah, he might have cheated on me and hooked up with his ex, but he's a good guy." Classic. I remember I used to think that about the Married Propositioner.

This got me to thinking about what I'd do if I was cast in that show (we'll just pretend for argument's sake that I'd actually do it...LOL). Is there anyone in my past who I'd give up for my current beau? First Love would come close...but no cigar, 'cos I honestly feel like a dude who would cheat with me, could just as easily cheat on me.

What about you? Who's the ex you'd rekindle with?

You know, the more I think about it, the more I realize that my "exes" (I use the term loosely, since technically - and I'm big on technicalities - I've never really had a boyfriend) and Ex-Lax have a lot in common: chocolate covered purges that suck the crap out of me and leave me drained but feeling better...LOL.

Adrian, trus' me I know it's all about entertainment. My cuz is a TV producer, so hanging out with her I've become quite cynical about these shows...but it was still funny.

"Reality" TV is very entertaining to me.

LOL @ Jdid...one would certainly hope so! Hehe...

There's one from 12 years ago I'd still give my left leg and right arm for... really a nice girl.

Wonder what happened to her? And in case you're wondering why we didn't get together, let's say religious and parental pressure do exist even in these modern times.
